Does Cleveland Even Believe in Shedeur Sanders?

BEREA, Ohio — “Blame him for plenty, but Cleveland Browns owner Jimmy Haslam said he’s not directly responsible for a recent high-profile draft pick.”

That quote from the Associated Press says a lot without saying too much — and if you read between the lines, it raises serious questions about the Cleveland Browns’ commitment to rookie quarterback Shedeur Sanders.

Let’s get straight to it: when the owner distances himself from a draft pick, it’s not just smoke — there’s fire behind that. It’s looking more and more like Shedeur wasn’t Jimmy Haslam’s guy, and based on how training camp has gone so far, it doesn’t look like he was head coach Kevin Stefanski’s guy either.

Reports out of camp are disappointing, especially considering Kenny Pickett’s injury. You would think that would open the door for Shedeur to get meaningful first-team reps and a chance to prove he belongs. But instead, he’s been stuck at the bottom of the depth chart, barely getting any real snaps. No rhythm. No opportunity to build chemistry. No indication that he’s truly being developed.

So, what’s really going on?

If the front office (led by GM Andrew Berry) made the call to draft Sanders, but the coaching staff isn’t backing it up with action, then the organization isn’t aligned. And that’s a major problem — especially at the quarterback position, where confidence and consistency are everything.

To make matters worse, if they toss Shedeur into preseason games with little to no meaningful camp reps, it’s not just unfair — it’s setting the kid up to fail. You can’t expect a young quarterback to lead confidently if you’ve never let him take the wheel in practice.

We had high hopes for Shedeur Sanders coming out of college. He’s intelligent, poised, and carries himself like a pro. But talent means nothing if the system around you doesn’t give you a fair shot. If Cleveland truly wants to develop him, they need to show it — with reps, with support, and with belief.

Right now, it feels like Shedeur is just a name on the roster — not a part of the plan. And that’s a shame for a young man with so much potential.

Spring Mills Cardinals Finish Summer Workouts with Speed, Strength & Focus

Date: July 24, 2025

Location: Spring Mills High School – Martinsburg, WV

Photographer: John Johnson | Man Of Blessings Photography

As the summer chapter closes and football season nears, I had the opportunity to document the final day of summer workouts for the Spring Mills High School Cardinals Football Team—and these young men didn’t disappoint.

Led by Head Coach Marcus Law, with support from Flow Fitness and Nate Sowers, the team went through a full-performance testing session that highlighted their hard work over the past few months. The day included 40-yard dash sprints, agility testing, and an intense grind in the weight room—where effort, focus, and leadership were on full display.

From the burst off the line during sprints to the last rep in the weight room, this group brought unmatched energy. These moments reflect the heart of the program—discipline, accountability, and a hunger to compete.

I’ve included a few of my favorite shots below to give you a glimpse into the day, but the full gallery is now available for players, families, and supporters to view, download, or purchase prints.

Tracy McGrady’s Legacy: Greatness Without a Championship

(Photo credit should read CALVIN KNIGHT/AFP/Getty Images)

When basketball fans debate the greatest players to never win an NBA Championship, Tracy McGrady is always at the top of the list. There’s no denying McGrady’s individual talent—he was a seven-time NBA All-Star, a two-time scoring champion, and one of the most electrifying players of his era. But when it comes to NBA championships, McGrady’s resume falls short.

The Missed Opportunity: Orlando vs. Detroit

One of the biggest blemishes on McGrady’s playoff legacy came during the 2003 NBA Playoffs, when his Orlando Magic team held a 3-1 series lead over the Detroit Pistons in the first round. Instead of closing out the series, Orlando collapsed, losing three straight games and the series in heartbreaking fashion. This collapse added to the narrative that McGrady-led teams lacked the grit and leadership necessary to advance deep into the playoffs.

The Harsh Truth: Leadership and Legacy

Despite his personal greatness, McGrady never carried a team to the NBA Finals, something that separates him from true champions like Kobe Bryant, Stephen Curry, Giannis Antetokounmpo, and LeBron James. These players not only dominated statistically but also elevated their teams when it mattered most.

While McGrady has often shared his frustration about never having a championship-contending team, the reality is that many players in NBA history have faced similar obstacles. What makes the legends stand apart is their ability to lead their teams to championships despite adversity. Steph Curry’s leadership with the Golden State Warriors, Kobe Bryant’s five NBA titles with the Lakers, and Giannis’ inspiring run with the Milwaukee Bucks are all testaments to that championship DNA.

The “What If” Game: Tracy McGrady vs. Kobe Bryant

McGrady has sometimes hinted that if he had been in Kobe Bryant’s position with the Lakers, he too could have been a champion. While it’s an intriguing “what if” scenario for NBA fans, the truth is that great players find a way to win. Kobe wasn’t just a product of his environment—he was the heartbeat of five NBA championship teams. Championships are earned, not handed out based on talent alone.

Final Thoughts: Respect the Game, Respect the Truth

Tracy McGrady deserves his place in the Basketball Hall of Fame, and his highlights will forever live on. But when it comes to NBA championships, the facts are the facts: he wasn’t great enough as the leader of his teams to achieve what others like Curry, Kobe, and Giannis were able to accomplish.

It’s time for the endless comparisons and complaints to stop. NBA greatness is defined not just by skill, but by the ability to lead, win, and rise in the biggest moments. And that’s something McGrady, for all his brilliance, was never able to do.
