Spring Mills vs. Morgantown: Morgantown Gets Their Revenge

This past Friday, I had the opportunity to capture the action as Spring Mills hosted Morgantown in a high-stakes matchup. The Cardinals came into this game with plenty of motivation, looking to build on last season’s playoff meeting, but Morgantown was determined to get their revenge.

The previous season, Spring Mills had edged Morgantown in the WVSSAC quarterfinals 14‑7, a game they felt slipped away due to turnovers. Morgantown came out swinging this time, and it was clear from the opening kickoff that they were ready to make a statement.

Spring Mills’ defense started strong, forcing a huge 3-and-out against Morgantown’s high-powered offense led by sophomore Maddox Twigg. But on the Cardinals’ first possession, disaster struck: Twigg intercepted a pass and returned it for a pick-six. The play deflated Spring Mills’ momentum and energized Morgantown, who never looked back.

Morgantown’s defense completely took over the game, forcing two interceptions and delivering big sacks that killed drives and kept the Cardinals off balance. Their hard-hitting, disciplined play combined with a strong running game led to a 21‑0 victory.

For Spring Mills, the game was a test of resilience. With 19 seniors on the roster, this is a veteran team that has the talent and experience to bounce back. The Cardinals will need their leaders — their “dawgs” — to step up on both the practice field and the game field for the remainder of the season.

Now sitting at 3‑2, with losses to Wheeling Park and Morgantown, Spring Mills has reached the halfway point of the season. It’s the perfect time for the Cardinals to lock in, find their rhythm, and make a strong push toward a playoff run. Their next test comes against Washington, and fans can expect a team determined to respond and make a statement.

Shepherd University Football Home Opener vs. Kutztown

This past Saturday, I had the opportunity to capture the action as Shepherd University hosted Kutztown for their 2025 football home opener. The energy in Ram Stadium was electric as fans filled the stands, ready to cheer on their team for the first home game of the season.

Despite the tough outcome, with Kutztown pulling away for a 49–10 victory, the game provided plenty of exciting moments to capture. From the intensity of the players on the field, to the passion of the coaches on the sidelines, and the support of the Shepherd faithful in the crowd—every frame told part of the story.

As a photographer, I focus on more than just the scoreboard. Each game is about the emotion, the grind, and the atmosphere. The Rams played with heart, and that spirit is what makes covering Shepherd football so special.

Spring Mills Cardinals vs. Morgantown Mohigans: High School Football Rematch Under the Lights

The stage is set for one of the most anticipated matchups of the WV high school football season as the Spring Mills High School football team (3–1) hosts the Morgantown Mohigans (4–0) this Friday night. Fans across the region know this isn’t just another game — it’s a rematch of last year’s WVSSAC high school football playoffs, where Spring Mills edged Morgantown in the quarterfinals with a thrilling 14–7 victory.

In that 2024 playoff clash, the Spring Mills Cardinals football squad broke a fourth-quarter tie with a clutch touchdown. Their defense then came up huge, delivering a late stop that sealed the win and ended the Mohigans’ season. For Morgantown, the loss has fueled a mission for redemption in 2025, and their perfect start proves it.

The Morgantown High School football team enters Week 5 undefeated at 4–0, powered by rising star quarterback Maddox Twigg (Class of 2028). Twigg has been doing his thing all season — showing poise, making smart reads, and delivering big plays that have the Mohigans rolling. For such a young QB, he’s quickly become the centerpiece of Morgantown’s offense and a name to watch across West Virginia high school football.

Spring Mills, however, will be led by its own headliner: senior Xavier Anderson, a University of Cincinnati commit. Anderson has been terrorizing opponents all season, making plays on both sides of the ball and setting the tone with his athleticism and leadership. Whether it’s catching passes, breaking tackles, or shutting down opponents on defense, Anderson has been the difference-maker for the Cardinals — and he’ll be expected to rise once again under the Friday night lights.

At 3–1, the Spring Mills football schedule 2025 already shows how battle-tested the Cardinals have been. To slow down Twigg and Morgantown’s offense, Spring Mills will lean on Anderson’s star power along with a defense that thrives in big moments.

This Spring Mills vs. Morgantown matchup has all the makings of a playoff atmosphere — intensity, rivalry energy, and a spotlight on two of the top programs in the state. Fans can expect hard hits, big plays, and the kind of Friday night drama that defines WV high school football.

I’ll be on the sidelines capturing every moment for Man of Blessings Sports Media, bringing you photos that tell the story of this pivotal matchup.

Kickoff: Friday, September 26 | Location: Spring Mills High School

Spring Mills Jr. Cardinals Light Up the Field with Fun and Energy

This past weekend, the youngest athletes in the community took the spotlight as the Spring Mills Jr. Cardinals (6–7 year olds) hit the field for some flag football and the older kids made some noise with the helmets and shoulder pads.

From the opening whistle to the final play, the kids showed off not only their growing football skills but also their personalities — full of smiles, laughter, and even a few dance moves after big plays. These games remind us what youth sports are all about: having fun, building friendships, and learning to love the game.

Spring Mills Defense Shines in 20–0 Win Over Musselman

The rivalry between Spring Mills and Musselman lived up to its reputation Friday night, with plenty of physical play, penalties, and intensity on both sides. But when the dust settled, it was the Cardinals’ defense that stole the show, leading Spring Mills to a 20–0 shutout victory.

This marks the second straight shutout for Spring Mills and the third consecutive meeting where the Cardinals’ defense has not allowed Musselman to score a touchdown. Even when multiple unsportsmanlike conduct penalties extended Applemen drives, the Spring Mills defense held firm and refused to break.

Musselman entered the contest with confidence after defeating Wheeling Park 21–14 the week before, especially since Spring Mills had fallen to Wheeling Park earlier this season, 33–28. On paper, the Applemen felt they had a chance to contend. On the field, however, Spring Mills erased those hopes with a dominant performance.

With this win, the Cardinals continue to build momentum and show why their defense is among the toughest in the Eastern Panhandle.

Spring Mills Edges Musselman in Freshman Football Battle, 14–12

MARTINSBURG, WV — Under the lights last night, the Spring Mills freshman football team and the Musselman freshman squad went head-to-head in a thrilling matchup that came down to the final minutes. Both teams left everything on the field, but in the end, Spring Mills pulled out a narrow 14–12 victory.

From the opening kickoff, it was clear this wasn’t just another freshman game — it was a showcase of future talent for both programs. The Cardinals and the Applemen battled for every yard, trading defensive stops and explosive plays that kept fans on the edge of their seats.

Spring Mills made key plays when it mattered most, capitalizing on opportunities and showing grit on both sides of the ball. Musselman, however, refused to back down and fought until the very last whistle, proving that their roster is stacked with young athletes who will make noise in the years to come.

In the end, the scoreboard read 14–12 in favor of Spring Mills, but the real story was the effort, heart, and potential on display from both teams.

Spring Mills Dominates in 52-0 Shutout Over Connellsville

The Spring Mills Cardinals put on a statement performance this past Friday night, overwhelming Connellsville in a commanding 52-0 victory. From the opening kickoff to the final whistle, the Cardinals controlled every aspect of the game — offense, defense, and special teams — leaving no doubt on their home turf.

Spring Mills’ defense was suffocating, refusing to give Connellsville any room to breathe. The Cardinals not only kept the Falcons off the scoreboard but also forced turnovers that set up their offense with prime opportunities. It was a textbook example of physical, disciplined football.

On the offensive side, the Cardinals showcased their speed, strength, and playmaking ability. The ground game punished Connellsville’s front line while explosive plays through the air kept the scoreboard ticking. By halftime, Spring Mills had already built a comfortable lead, and they never looked back.

This win was more than just another tally in the win column — it was a complete team effort and a confidence booster as the Cardinals continue their season. The energy from the players, coaches, and fans highlighted a program moving in the right direction.

For fans who want to relive the action, I’ve put together a full photo gallery capturing some of the game’s biggest plays and moments. You can view it here: Photo Gallery

Spring Mills has shown they can play at a high level, and if Friday’s dominant shutout is any indication, this team is only getting started.

Martinsburg Freshman Pull Away in Second Half Against Musselman

Yesterday’s freshman football matchup between Martinsburg and Musselman was a tale of two halves.

The first half was a defensive battle, with both teams holding strong at the line of scrimmage. Neither side was able to break through, and the game went into halftime locked at 0–0.

After the break, Martinsburg found their rhythm. The Bulldogs turned up the intensity on both sides of the ball—executing sharper offensive drives and tightening their defensive coverage. That second-half surge was the difference-maker, as Martinsburg pulled away and secured the win.

It was a gritty performance that showed the resilience and depth of this young Bulldogs team. Musselman battled hard but couldn’t match the energy Martinsburg brought out of the locker room.

Musselman Edges Spring Mills in 2-1 Varsity Soccer Battle

Martinsburg, WV – Under the lights last night, Musselman High School and Spring Mills High squared off in a hard-fought boys varsity soccer matchup that kept fans on edge until the final whistle.

From the opening kickoff, both teams showed grit and determination, trading possession and creating chances on each end of the field. Spring Mills came out aggressive, pressing Musselman’s defense early and testing their keeper with a couple of dangerous shots.

Musselman responded with disciplined play in the midfield, controlling the tempo and eventually finding the back of the net to take the lead. Spring Mills answered later in the first half with a goal of their own, bringing the crowd to life and tying the match at 1-1.

The second half proved to be a battle of endurance and composure. Both defenses tightened up, and goalkeepers stepped up with key saves to keep the scoreline even. With less than 15 minutes to go, Musselman capitalized on a critical chance, scoring the go-ahead goal to make it 2-1.

Spring Mills continued to push forward in the final minutes, creating pressure in front of goal, but Musselman’s back line held strong to secure the victory.

The win adds another notch in Musselman’s strong start to the season, while Spring Mills will look to bounce back quickly as EPAC play continues.

Martinsburg JV Powers Past Hedgesville in Physical Battle

The Martinsburg JV Bulldogs showed their speed, power, and depth in a strong 39–14 win over the Hedgesville Eagles. From the opening kickoff, it was clear that Martinsburg wanted to set the tone physically, and their combination of quickness and strength helped them control the game on both sides of the ball.

Hedgesville battled hard and made some big plays of their own, but Martinsburg’s relentless attack proved to be too much as the Bulldogs pulled away for the victory.

This was a hard-hitting game that showed off just how competitive the Eastern Panhandle can be at every level of football.

I was originally booked to capture one athlete in particular during this matchup, but as always, the energy of the game drew me into capturing more of the action. I’m excited to share a full gallery of shots that highlight the intensity, teamwork, and individual moments from the field.

Spring Mills vs. Wheeling Park: A Friday Night Nail-Biter

Friday night’s matchup between Spring Mills and Wheeling Park had everything you’d expect from a classic high school football battle—big plays, momentum swings, and a finish that came down to the final seconds.

Wheeling Park leaned heavily on their run game, and it paid off in a big way. Senior running back Brennan Wack put on a performance to remember, carrying the ball 31 times for an impressive 233 yards and finding the end zone five times. His ability to keep the chains moving and punch in scores kept Wheeling Park ahead, but Spring Mills never went away quietly.

The Cardinals had their shot late in the fourth quarter. Down by just five, Spring Mills marched deep into Wheeling Park territory and lined up at the 4-yard line with a chance to steal the win. Facing 4th-and-1 with just 17 seconds left, the game came down to one final play. The Wheeling Park defense stood tall, stuffing the run and sealing a hard-fought 33–28 victory.

Both teams showed grit and resilience, but Wheeling Park’s clutch defensive stand and Wack’s dominant performance proved to be the difference.

Dallas Cowboys vs. Philadelphia Eagles: A Season-Opening Test

The NFL season officially kicked off last night with one of the league’s biggest rivalries: the Dallas Cowboys versus the Philadelphia Eagles. And while the Cowboys didn’t come away with the win, I walked away feeling encouraged about some things—and concerned about others.

πŸ“Έ Terrance Williams AP

Offense: Signs of Growth, but Still Flaws

One thing that stood out immediately is how much better Dallas looked offensively compared to last year. The line gave Dak Prescott some protection, and there was a sense of rhythm early on, especially with the run game in the first half. The ground attack looked balanced and kept Philadelphia guessing.

But in the second half, Dallas leaned way too heavily on the pass. And while Dak was sharp at times, the offense became predictable—mainly because 90% of his throws went to CeeDee Lamb. Don’t get me wrong, Lamb is elite, but last night he was force-fed the ball. That led to some costly second-half drops, including a few that could’ve put Dallas in position to steal the lead late. Instead of spreading the ball around and letting other weapons get involved, Dallas became one-dimensional. In my eyes, that hurt them—and maybe even cost them the game.

Defense: Missing Micah Parsons Already

Defensively, Dallas looked more disciplined than last season, but you could feel the absence of Micah Parsons. Against a mobile quarterback like Jalen Hurts, the lack of a spy was glaring. Hurts carved up the defense with his legs, scoring two rushing touchdowns and repeatedly stepping up into open lanes when the pocket broke down.

If Dallas doesn’t adjust this philosophy, things could get ugly fast. Just imagine when they face Washington’s young, athletic quarterback Jayden Daniels (JD5). Without a spy or a plan to contain mobility, it’s going to be a long afternoon.

The defense did do a nice job containing A.J. Brown, which was a bright spot. But the Eagles still found ways to move the ball consistently, and their commitment to their offensive identity was impressive.

Eagles’ Execution: Hurts and Special Teams Shine

Philadelphia didn’t do anything flashy, but they were steady and consistent. Jalen Hurts’ ability to extend plays and score with his legs was the difference. Even with Saquon Barkley not breaking 100 yards (he actually finished as their second-leading rusher behind Hurts), the Eagles never panicked. They stuck to their system.

Special teams also played a huge role. By punting away from KaVontae Turpin, the Eagles neutralized one of Dallas’s most explosive weapons. That hidden field-position battle added up across four quarters.

Final Thoughts

I didn’t expect Dallas to win this game, and honestly, I liked a lot of what I saw. The offense looks sharper, the defense has more structure, and the energy feels different than last year. But the over-reliance on Lamb and the failure to adjust to Hurts’ mobility were costly mistakes.

For the Eagles, it was business as usual: consistency, patience, and execution. For the Cowboys, it’s about making the tweaks to spread the ball, spy mobile quarterbacks, and stay balanced in both halves of football.

It’s only Week 1, but if last night was any indication, this Dallas team is heading in the right direction. I’m looking forward to seeing how they respond next week.

Hedgesville Girls Volleyball Stays Perfect in EPAC With Win Over Martinsburg

On Tuesday, September 2, 2025, I was courtside capturing the action as the Hedgesville Eagles traveled to face the Martinsburg Bulldogs in an EPAC girls varsity volleyball matchup.

Hedgesville entered the night undefeated in conference play, and they showed why. The Eagles played with energy and focus, taking control of the match to secure the win. With the victory, Hedgesville improves to 3-0 in the EPAC, while Martinsburg falls to 1-2.

The Bulldogs put up a strong fight, feeding off their home crowd, but the Eagles’ execution and consistency gave them the edge down the stretch. Both programs showed plenty of talent and determination, making this rivalry game one to remember.

Spring Mills vs. Martinsburg Freshman Football – Season Opener

The Spring Mills High School freshman football team kicked off their season against the Martinsburg Bulldogs freshman squad, and the Bulldogs came out on top with a 28–12 victory.

Martinsburg looked sharp on offense, doing a great job running the ball and spreading it around through the air. Their balance kept Spring Mills’ defense on its heels. On the other hand, Spring Mills’ offense became a little too predictable. They leaned heavily on one wide receiver, which made it easier for Martinsburg’s defense to key in and anticipate the game plan.

Spring Mills did find success on the ground and showed flashes of a strong run game. Had they stuck with it and spread the ball to their many weapons, the outcome could have been very different. Unfortunately, penalties also played a big role. Costly flags killed promising Spring Mills drives while extending several Martinsburg possessions. At one point, the penalty discrepancy looked close to 30–2. While I’m not saying there was “home cooking,” the referees definitely seemed to let some holding calls slide—especially on key scoring drives for the Bulldogs.

Despite the challenges, it was exciting to watch both of these talented groups of freshmen take the field for the first time. I personally know kids on both sides of the ball, and seeing them compete at the high school level was a special moment.

I captured photos from the game, which you can check out here: https://www.manofblessings.com/High-School-Sports/High-School-Football-/Spring-Mills-Freshman-Football-2025/Spring-Mills-Football-Freshman-Game-1-vs-Martinsburg

Spring Mills Opens Season with 14–0 Win Over Jefferson

Friday night under the lights, the Spring Mills Cardinals kicked off their season with a hard-fought 14–0 victory over Jefferson. The game was a defensive battle from start to finish, but Spring Mills’ explosive running back duo of Blake Sanders and Tavon Jones provided the spark, each breaking off big runs that turned into touchdowns.

While the Cardinals came away with the shutout win, there were still a few missed opportunities on the offensive side. Two slightly overthrown passes could have been scores, and another underthrown ball gave Jefferson’s defense time to close the gap—even though wideout DJ Mayer had a 10-yard cushion on the play. Jefferson also made a key defensive stand late in the game, coming up with an interception in the end zone to prevent another Spring Mills touchdown.

That’s the nature of a season opener—some things click right away, and others need fine-tuning. If Spring Mills wants to make it back to the State Championship game, they’ll need to connect on those big plays and avoid leaving points on the board. The encouraging news is the potential is there, and it’s clear this offense has plenty of firepower waiting to break through.

Defensively, the Cardinals shined all night. They consistently applied pressure, forced turnovers, and came up with huge stops. Senior standout and University of Cincinnati commit Xavier Anderson was a force up front, racking up big sacks and setting the tone for a defense that looks ready to carry this team deep into the season.
