Last night, I was on the field for the rematch between #4 Jefferson High and #5 George Washington High, a game that carried all the weight of their first matchup—and then some.

Their previous meeting ended in a dramatic 34–33 Jefferson victory, marking Jefferson’s first win of the year after an 0–4 start. That loss was also George Washington’s first of the season. Since then, Jefferson hasn’t looked back. They’ve been rolling, and last night they showed exactly why.
This second meeting wasn’t nearly as tight. Jefferson controlled the game from start to finish and walked away with a 28–21 win, officially punching their ticket to the WVSSAC AAAA Quarterfinals. The score makes the game look closer than it felt—if not for a handful of untimely penalties, Jefferson could’ve put this one away by an even larger margin. Their defense flew around all night, and the offense kept the tempo steady and confident.

With #2 Huntington falling to University, the playoff picture suddenly looks wide open. All eyes today are on Spring Mills vs. #1 Morgantown and Wheeling Park vs. #3 Martinsburg, matchups that could shift the entire bracket landscape heading into the next round.

From the sidelines, I captured the intensity, emotion, and key moments from the #4 Jefferson vs. #5 George Washington showdown. Those images will be available in a full gallery for players, families, and fans looking to relive one of the most important wins of Jefferson’s season.
